Attempts by the Ministry of Labour to bridge the gap on talks to renew collective agreements between the workers of Swissport Cyprus Ltd and LGS Handling Ltd and their management failed today. The two companies are in charge of ground services at the airports of Larnaca and Paphos.

After two hours of discussion, the matter will head into arbitration, with the unions calling on their members for General Assemblies, to discuss measures to be taken, including the possibility of a strike.

The General Secretary of the SEK union’s private employees branch, Elisseos Michael, said that “the companies have not appreciated the sacrifices and contributions of the workers, and are expecting cutbacks.”
